Psyllium husk Benefits
Firstly, our psyllium husks are organic and tasteless. Psyllium has become the “go-to” fibre for anyone on a low-carb diet or for those who safely want to take a non-gluten-containing fibre.  Psyllium will not contribute to weight gain, and if needed, psyllium is great for constipation and diarrhoea, feeds the beneficial flora, and is non-addictive.

For some people, it’s difficult to get enough fibre in their diet so psyllium is an easy way to take care of this problem. It reduces appetite without over-stimulating the nervous system; a much healthier approach than formulas containing ephedra, mineral oils or drugs, all of which may cause dependence.

Psyllium is the husk of the seed of the Plantain and is a top herb used in weight control and for general intestinal health. It contains a spongy fibre that reduces appetite, improves digestion and cleanses the system, making it an excellent choice. For every 100g psyllium, you receive 71g soluble fibre; a similar amount of oat bran would contain only 5g of soluble fibre, be much higher in carbohydrates, have gluten present, and possibly make you tired an hour after eating it.

Scientists learned recently that soluble fibre possesses unique effects on metabolism – taking some ½ an hour prior to meals will cut down on the appetite (always have plenty of water with your psyllium powder) and it provides a feeling of fullness that is helpful to some before meals. Psyllium is one of the simplest, healthiest and most effective herbs for weight control.

Psyllium is extensively used for irritable bowel syndrome (a disorder with alternating bouts of diarrhoea and constipation) and as this herb will produce easy bowel movements with a loose stool, it is used by patients with anal fissures (cracks in the skin near the anus) and haemorrhoids – often recommended following anal or rectal surgery, during pregnancy and as a secondary treatment in certain types of diarrhoea.  It is completely safe if plenty of water is taken with it, and being organic, our psyllium is of the highest quality.

Psyllium also has the advantage over other sources of fibre of reducing flatulence and bloating.

Studies and clinical reports suggest that psyllium may enhance the sensation of fullness and reduce hunger cravings. For those simply wishing to improve digestion and intestinal tract health, a single teaspoon per day is all that is needed.
